the uk's largest farmer

The Co-operative currently farms over 70,000 acres in England and Scotland, making us the largest farmer in the UK.

We have been farming since 1896, when our first farm was bought to grow potatoes for our food stores. More farms were bought between the two World Wars to grow food when it was scarce. Image of a tray of strawberries from our farm at Blairgowrie

As a large farmer and a supermarket, we’re in an ideal position to ensure we provide the very best of British to our customers.

We grow a variety of cereals, including wheat which goes into Co-operative packet flour, and a growing range of fruit and vegetables including potatoes, strawberries, cider apples and peas which all go into The Co-operative Food stores. Find out more about our food products

As part of The Co-operative Group we are committed to farming in a sustainable and responsible way.  We set ourselves very high standards in our care of the environment and of wildlife, as well as in having good relationships with the communities in which we farm.

We are committed to raising awareness of farming and how food is produced. We welcome school children onto farms through our From Farm to Fork project.  We also invite Co-operative members and other farmers onto our farms to share our passion for growing top quality food, with care.
